While no George Clooney movie is completely without its charms, The American is a ponderous Eurpean production too tedious, terse and unsatisfying for most American audiences. You have to appreciate the artistic risks taken by the filmmakers, but do you  have to spend your hard-earned money and time on it? I think not.

More like a followup to the Blair Witch Project than to The Exorcist, this home-spun tail from producer and horror maven Eli Roth will chill you to the bone and leave you wondering whether exorcisms are really fact or fiction.

A high-touch film in a high tech world, Nanny McPhee returns uses great actors, good story-telling, beautiful countryside, and, all right, a little magical CGI, to tell a sweet tale that will enchant both adults and children.

There's bloody good fun to be had from this blatant parody of the Twilight series. The same guys who brought you the Scary Movie franchise are clearly nither  on Team Jacob or Team Edward, but instead on Team I Don't Give a $#@!

This graphic novel/video game movie is bouncing and flashing with wit and originality. It's hard to picture anyone other than the nebbishy Michael Cera who is the perfect nerd until the going gets tough, when he becomes a video game super hero. The film is original and pitch perfect.

If you, like Oprah, loved the book and adore Julia Roberts, you'll probably be satisfied with this bloated, self-indulgent travelogue. Not being a big fan of either, I found the film to be insufferable.

When you go to see a dance film, you don't really expect it to deliver much more than amazing moves and groves. This film meets those expectations perfectly. If you can endure the dialogue and affectation that move things along from one dance scene to the next, you'll be just fine. And the 3D effects are AMAZING.

Angelina rivals all action stars as the mysterious, sultry, yet tough-as-nails Evelyn Salt, who may or may not be the greatest Russian double-agent of all time. As she leaps and shoots and crashes and rolls through the film, you'll marvel at her mad skills, and will be kept guessing until the very end.

One of the most beautiful, compelling and complicated films of the 21st Century, Christopher Nolan's latest film is a masterpiece on many levels. From the casting of Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard lead us through layer upon layer of ethereal intrigue that require being experienced several times to fully appreciate.

If there's a better film out there this year, I haven't seen it. This is one instance where the third installment doesn't disappoint, in fact, it brings to the franchise to a level of perfection it's doubtful whether anyone other than Pixar could ever achieve.

Even the infectious natures and stunning good looks of leads Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel can't make up for the painfully unfunny script, contrived characters and ridiculous premise. And the casting had so much potential...

You'd think a post apocalyptical Western pitting hero Denzel Washington against villain Gary Oldman would be highly watchable. You'd think.

Let me get this straight: A film about a brutally murdered girl who is watching from purgatory while her family falls apart and the pervert who did it plots his next murder--that's supposed to be a warm and fuzzy holiday treat? I think not, regardless of the involvement of Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg.

It’s a long and whining road that leads through this bleak movie about a father and son trying to survive a dismal, hopeless, post-apocalyptical world. Just the thing for the holiday cheer viewers are seeking this time of year.

Bad dog! The people responsible for this chewed up slipper of a film, wasting John Travolta and Robin Williams, should be disciplined. And you will surely wind up in the dog house yourself if you force anyone to see it with you.
