Just in time for Labor Day, Mike Judge’s new workplace comedy will sneak up on you and chomp down on your funny bone. It’s a simple flick with uncomplicated characters who have a humorous knack for making bad decisions, over which  you can’t help but giggle. Because chances are you know someone exactly like “that.” And if you don’t, you’ve been living in LA or New York too long. Extract features Every Man at his silliest.

Jason Bateman heads the cast as Joel, a good hearted guy who started his own flavoring extract plant, and has his hands full dealing with a motley crew of employees that more often than not includes a passel of highly unqualified temps. Ben Affleck, sporting long and awful facial hair, is his bad influence bartender buddy, and Kristen Wiig is Joel’s less than perfect wife. J.K. Simmons is on board as Joel’s head-scratching business partner, and the lovely Mila Kunis is a conniving yet hickish femme fatale. David Koechner is a burdensome neighbor, and Gene Simmons makes a brief appearance as an ambulance chasing, Spanglish speaking, bus bench advertising lawyer. Stick around through the credits to see him get his.

Extract is dripping with, “I can’t believe he/she just did that!” moments, that come from the hilariously twisted mind of Mike Judge, who is best known for writing, directing and acting in numerous episodes of Beavis and Butt-head, King of the Hill, and most recently, The Goode Family. His real life characters are equally two-dimensional and pedestrian, but also equally bizarre and amusing. His humor isn’t anywhere near as outrageous as, say, Judd Apatow’s, but they’re a little more believable and endearing. Subtle humor suits just fine.
