After taking a clear turn towards the macho around Father’s Day, it looks like the weekly DVD numbers are starting to get back in touch with their sensitive side, according to recent numbers released by Rentrak.

Fool’s Gold, a romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McCounaghey, and The Bucket List, a tale of two men coming to terms with terminal illness, led both the DVD rental and sales charts for the week ending June 21.

Of course, all wasn’t love and death, as the Martin Lawrence comedy Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins and the teen action flick Jumper, about a war between teleporters and those who’ve sworn to kill them, also finished strongly. The two finished third and fourth respectively in DVD sales and swapped positions on the rental chart.

A surprise strong performer in its second full week on DVD was the Michael Gondry-directed Be Kind, Rewind, starring Mos Def and Jack Black. The movie – itself about the adventures of two hapless employees at a struggling video store – was the fifth most rented DVD of the week.

But the real survivor on the list was National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, released nearly a month ago on May 20, but still the fifth highest seller and seventh best renter. The film, starring Nicolas Cage, was just a small part of a strong week overall by Disney, including a good showing by the 45th Anniversary Edition of its 1963 animated classic The Sword and the Stone.
