High School Musical Mania Continues
Nov 3, 2008High School Musical 3: Senior Year continued to dominate the box office this weekend. It grossed $15 million for the three days, bringing its total to $61.8 million. With a budget of only $11 million, these teens are making some serious cash. Although it dropped 64.2% from last weekend, HSM3's popularity shows some real staying power.
Proving that America doesn’t mind a little raunchiness, the controversial Zack and Miri Make a Porno came in second with $10.7 million. In this Kevin Smith comedy, two childhood friends are in desperate need of making money fast, so they decide to make a pornographic film together. Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) attracted audiences with their unique comedic style, and the overall message of the film, which is not what one might expect.
Saw V continued to pull people into the theater for the Halloween weekend and came in a very close third at $10.1 million. We will have to wait and see if Saw’s scare tactics can continue to draw viewers as the Trick-or-Treat season comes to an end.
Clint Eastwood’s Changeling starring Angelina Jolie in its first weekend of nationwide release came in fourth with $9.4 million. It had an average of $5,085 per screen and an overall increase of 1,823.7% since its limited release last week.
The Haunting of Molly Hartley grossed a mere $6.0 million on its opening weekend, while Beverly Hills Chihuahua still held strong with another $4.7 million, five weeks after its opening. It has already grossed $84 million, and has proved yet again, in sixth place, to be a crowd favorite.
The Secret Life of Bees starring Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning continues to fall, making just $4 million. Also, on the decline, Max Payne dropped by 52.5%, grossing $3.7 million this weekend.
