Obsessed stalked the box office for the lead, grossing $28.5 million. It appeared on 3,000 screens at 2,514 theaters. Even with the predictable storyline of a woman becoming 'obsessed' with another woman’s man, the two female stars, Beyonce and Ali Larter, kept audiences entertained. Polls reported that 58 percent of the audience was female and 51 percent was over the age of 25, according to Sony Pictures.

Sliding into second place was 17 Again, earning $11.7 millions in its second weekend in theaters. The picture, starring High School Musical’s Zac Efron, has grossed $40 million after 10 days.

Channing Tatum’s underdog street-fighting flick, named appropriately, Fighting, grossed $11.4 million for a solid start. Polls show 58 percent of the audience was male and 66 percent was under the age of 25, according to Universal Pictures.

The Soloist rounded out the top four opening with $9.7 million on 2,200 screens at 2,024 theaters. The pictures stars two well known actors, Robert Downey Jr. and Jaime Foxx and tells the true story of a homeless man who is also a gifted musician and the friendship he finds with a journalist looking for his next big story.

Disneynature’s Earth grossed $14.2 million for its extra long five-day opening ($8.6 million Friday through Sunday), having debuted on Wednesday, Earth Day, on 1,900 screens at 1,804 locations. The film featured that added promotion of the studio paying for the planting of a treein the Brazilian Rain Forest for every movie ticket sold within the movie's first week. Adapted from the hit series, Planet Earth, the story follows three animal families on their annual migration and shows stunning visuals of other exotic species and terrain around the globe.

Monsters vs. Aliens had the smallest decline of the films in nationwide release, a mere 36 percent. The 3D comedy grossed $8.5 million last weekend and has earned a grand total of $174.8 million after 31 days.

State of Play, dropped from second place to seventh last weekend earning $7.0 million. It now has taken in a total of $25.1 million after two weeks at the box office.

Hannah Montana: The Movie earned $6.4 million for a 17-day total of $65.6 million, running slightly ahead of the previous Miley Cyrus vehicle, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, which grossed $65.3 million domestically after a comparable run in theaters.

Fast and Furious also passed the original, The Fast and Furious, to become the franchise’s highest grosser, earning $6.1 million last weekend for a whopping total of $145.2 million after 24 days. Could this mean there will be a fifth installment in the near future?

The Informers, starring Mickey Rourke and Billy Bob Thorton opened in limited release and grossed $300,000 at 482 theaters. The story centers on a group of loosely connected characters who are all entangled in adventures involving sex, drugs and violence.
