Review: 'The American'

For a film called The American, this film feels extremely European in a brooding, independent sort of way. And although it features everyone's favorite born-in-the-USA homeboy George Clooney, I think most American audiences will find it just a wee bit too foreign. As much as both men and women love to look at Clooney's handsome, craggy face, part of his charm is the smile, the wit, the banter.

Yank my credentials and call me a hack, but I thought Vampires Suck was really funny. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was the box office champ for the second week in a row; grossing $42.3 million while Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs earned $41.7 million. Both films’ estimated grosses were $42.5 million, which was the first time two studios has the same estimated totals since 1998 when Titanic and The Man in the Iron Mask were estimated with $17.5 million each.
