Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was the box office champ for the second week in a row; grossing $42.3 million while Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs earned $41.7 million. Both films’ estimated grosses were $42.5 million, which was the first time two studios has the same estimated totals since 1998 when Titanic and The Man in the Iron Mask were estimated with $17.5 million each.

Revenge of the Fallen decreased 61 percent from the previous weekend as compared to the first Transformers which only declined by 47 percent at the same time. However, the sequel has raked in an outstanding $293.4 million in 12 days. (The first film had $212.3 million after 12 days.) This flick delivers all the summer criteria: explosive action, good-looking cast and lots of special effects. Plot takes a backseat. It is more than likely; Revenge will continue to dominate at the back office.

Even though this is the third film in The Ice Age franchise it has been received very highly by audiences. It appeared on 7,100 screens at 4,099 sites. It has grossed $66.7 million in five days – 55 percent was from the 1,606 3D venues. Ice Age: The Meltdown had earned $75.6 million as its five-day total. Polls concluded that 55 percent of the audience was families, according to 20th Century Fox.

Public Enemies earned $25.3 million on 4,900 screens at 3,334 venues. It opened on Wednesday and has a $40.1 million total. It is highly suspected that having Johnny Depp as the lead is contributing to the film’s success. Also, the film is filled with gun-toting gangsters of the 1930s. Polls indicate 53 percent of the audience was male and there was an even split between ages, according to Universal Pictures.

The Proposal had the smallest decline of the nationwide releases with just 31 percent from the previous weekend. It brought in $12.9 million, lifting its total to $94.3 million after 17 days.

The Hangover is finally starting to dissipate, but certainly is not gone just yet. The slapstick comedy grossed $11.3 million, which bumps its total past the $200-million mark with $205 million after 30 days in theaters.

Pixar’s Up fell 50 percent from the previous weekend and earned $6.5 million. This raised its total to a whopping $264.8 million in 38 days. It had to give up some of its 3D screens to the new Ice Age, which may have contributed to its deflate.

My Sister’s Keeper seems to have gotten lost underneath all of the other movies in theater right now. After just two weeks, it only managed to gross $5.8 million for a moderate total of $26.5 million after 10 days.

Away We Go with John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph continued its humble success grossing $1.1 million in 506 theaters. It has a total of $6.1 million in limited release. It is expected to open in more theaters in the coming weeks.

Also, Woody Allen’s Whatever Works appeared in 383 theaters and grossed 960,061 bumping its total to $1.9 million.

The Stoning of Soraya M. grossed $74,441 in 25 theaters. The intense film centers on an Iranian woman who gets stoned to death for false accusations of adultery. It has earned a total of $248, 974 after two weeks in theaters.
