Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen smashed the box office last weekend raking in $201.2 million since it opened last Wednesday and setting the box office standard for the summer season.

For just the three-day weekend explosive-action-packed Transformers sequel grossed $112 million, appearing on over 10,000 screens at 4,234 theaters. It was largely responsible for the box office enjoying its highest grossing June weekend ever. The film scored the second-largest five day start of all time behind The Dark Knight’s $203.8 million. The first Transformers earned $70.5 million on its opening weekend and didn’t cross the $200-million mark until its twelve day in theaters. Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf reprise their roles as young lovers out to save the world from the evil Decepticon robots. Polls show that 54 percent of the audience was male, according to Paramount Pictures.

The Proposal gets bumped to a distant second place, grossing $18.5 million its second weekend in theaters. The romantic comedy stars Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock and has earned a total of $69 million.

The Hangover refuses to go away. Last weekend it grossed $17.2 million to bump its total to $183.2 million after four weeks. It held strong as one of the best nationwide releases, slipping just 35 percent from the previous weekend. It is no wonder a sequel is in the works.

Disney/Pixar’s Up also stayed afloat in the top four, grossing $13 million. The popular animated film has earned $250.2 million over five weeks.

My Sister’s Keeper based on Jodi Picoult’s novel of the same name grossed $12 million at 2,606 sites. The drama focuses on a family who genetically creates another child to be a match to save their eldest daughter from a rare form of leukemia. The film explores serious, ethical issues that may have turned off some who would rather watch lighter summer fare like comedy or a blockbuster with lots of things blowing up.

Year One is moving closer and closer to year zero. It suffered a 70 percent decrease from its opening weekend to $5.8 million last weekend, for a two-week gross of $32 million.

Cheri, Miramax’s film starring Michelle Pfeiffer as a retired courtesan who falls in love with a young boy grossed $408, 000 in 76 theaters.

Summit’s war flick, The Hurt Locker, appeared in four venues and earned $144,000. Check out our Behind the Scenes look at this provocative film.

And The Stoning of Soraya M., which is the heartbreaking tale of an Iranian woman who was stoned to death after being falsely accused of adultery her husband, appeared on 27 theaters and grossed $117,000. The tragedy is intended to open the public’s eyes to some of the injustices women suffer around the world. This film will be released in more theaters in the coming weeks.
