This pre-Thanksgiving weekend proved there was something for everyone at the theaters. But the big winner was for teens, as the love story between vampire and human in Twilight more than doubled the take for a decidedly adult James Bond in Quantum of Solace and Disney’s kid-friendly Bolt.

As predicated Twilight had a monster opening weekend, raking in $69.6 million. Twilight fans swarmed to theaters to support the best-selling novel turned movie, and to get a glimpse of the two leads, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. This is the first of Stephenie Meyer’s four-book series made into a movie, which centers on 17-year-old loner Bella Swan who comes to live with her estranged father in Forks, Washington, and falls in love with Edward Cullen, who is a vampire. The story has swept the nation much like the Harry Potter series, and Summit Entertainment has already agreed to produce the sequel, entitled New Moon

James Bond’s second weekend in theaters earned $27.4 million, pushing Quantum of Solace’s total to $108.8 million.  Daniel Craig is proving that his more emotional/revengeful Bond performance can still attract the crowd.

Bolt, Disney’s new animated feature fell just short of Quantum earning $26.7 million its opening weekend.  Pixar’s 3D animated flick stars John Travolta voicing Bolt, a dog who has his own reality show, but when he accidently gets shipped from his Hollywood studio to New York City, he begins a new adventure to find his way home.  With the help of some new friends, (a TV obsessed hamster and a house cat named Mittens) Bolt must make his way across the country in the real world to find his owner and co-star Penny, voiced by Miley Cyrus. We will be keeping our eye on this pup to see if he can bring it home next weekend.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa slips into the fourth spot this weekend, from second last week, grossing $15.7 million, for a total of $137.1 million. It dropped 55.3 percent since last weekend, and with other big features like Twilight and Bolt that opened this weekend, it couldn’t keep up in its thrid week in theaters. Also three weeks after its debut, Role Models earned $7.3 million, ranking 5th last weekend.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year grossed just $2.0 million over the last three days, and after five weeks in theaters has grossed a total of $86.8 million, a very successful graduation for these high schoolers.

The Boy in Striped Pajamas jumps from 19th place to 9th this weekend, playing in 406 theaters and earning $1.6 million.  This film is the adaptation of Irish writer John Boyne’s award-winning children’s novel exploring the forbidden friendship between a Nazi camp officer’s son and a Jewish boy imprisoned in a concentration camp.  In the end, their friendship has deadly consequences that no one could have predicted.

Slumdog Millionaire, the indie film that has been catching a lot of buzz, grossed just under a million dollars this week, at $947,795. Yet it played in ony 32 theaters, for an average of $29,619 per — 50 percent higher than Twilight's $20,368 — jumping from 24th place to 11th place for the weekend.  This movie is definitely one to keep your eye on, as it continues to open in more theaters across the country.
