You Can Dance, Shoot or Love at the Movies This Weekend
May 21, 2009Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian is the sequel to Night at the Museum where a night security guard discovers that all of the exhibits in The Museum of Natural History come to life at night. In this adventure Ben Stiller returns along with his pals: Owen Wilson (Jedediah), Robin Williams (Teddy Roosevelt), and Octavius (Steve Coogan) and some new friends, Amy Adams (Amelia Earhart) to help him rescue some of the exhibits that have been shipped to the Smithsonian by mistake. The film is going to be featured in IMAX theaters where audiences will be able to get up close and personal with the coming-to-live attractions. This is a family film, but time will tell if one night at the museum was enough.
Easy Virtue is the adaptation on Noel Coward’s play of the same name. It was adapted once before in 1928 in a silent feature by Alfred Hitchcock. The new modern film stars Jessica Biel, Colin Firth, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ben Barnes. The social comedy is about a young Englishman who marries a gorgeous American widow in the South of France. When he brings her home, his mother strongly dislikes her and tries to manipulate every possible scenario to drive them apart. Tensions reach an all time high, and the new bride is forced to action in what is a suffocating home.
Dance Flick is a parody of other dance-inspired movies like Save the Last Dance, Step Up, and is directed by the Wayan Bros. The comedy is about street dancer, Thomas Uncles (Damon Wayans Jr.) who is from the wrong side of the tracks, but his bond with Megan White (Shoshana Bush) might be just what he needs to win the biggest dance battle he has ever entered. There have been so many of these teen comedies, Not Another Teen Movie, Scary Movie, Epic Movie, that this seems to be like an old dog that you can’t teach new tricks.
Terminator Salvation is the fourth installment to the franchise, and promises to be full of lots of explosive action. John Connor (Christian Bale) returns as an adult who is leading the battle against the machines, who have taken over since Judgment Day. Through the journey, set in 2018, he meets a cyborg who seems to be more human than machine, but is he really a friend or foe? This flick hopes to be next to be the victorious box office winner in the summer blockbuster season.
