The new movie Two Lovers starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Joaquin Phoenix will be aired as a special sneak preview on HDNet movies on Wednesday, February 11 at 8:00 p.m., two days before its national release in theaters on February 13th. The film was Phoenix’s final performance before announcing his retirement from acting to pursue a musical career.

Two Lovers is a romantic drama directed by James Gray, which centers on Leonard (Phoenix) who moves back home after suffering a heartbreak. While trying to come to terms with his loss, he meets two women: Michelle (Paltrow), his beautiful and mysterious neighbor, who is alluring because she is nothing like him and Sandra (Vinessa Shaw), who is the lovely daughter of the businessman buying Leonard’s family dry-cleaning business.

The plot thickens when Leonard is torn between his attraction to Michelle, who is having an affair with a married man, but who otherwise seems interested in him and the pressure his parents (Isabella Rossellini and Moni Monoshov) put on him to be have a romantic relationship with Sandra. He is forced to make an impossible decision between the two, and is desperately consumed with the fear of suffering heartbreak again.

Director James Gray was nominated for the Golden Palm Award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival for Two Lovers.
