Adam Sandler to be Honored (Sort Of)
May 30, 2008This weekend, Adam Sandler will receive the "MTV Generation Award" for his “amazing contribution to Hollywood and for entertaining the MTV audience for years.” Hosted by Mike Myers, the "2008 MTV Movie Awards" airs live on June 1st at 8:00pm/7c from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
"A 30-something waterboy, a broken-hearted 80s wedding singer and a rejected hockey player turned pro golfer ... now that's an impressive resume," said Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks’ Music/Logo/Films Group, "On Sunday our audience will present Adam with the MTV Generation Award for all the years he has captured, entertained and made us laugh our heads off."The MTV Generation Award is the MTV Movie Awards' highest honor, acknowledging an actor who has captivated the MTV audience throughout their career. Past recipients include Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.
Sandler is currently in production on Bedtime Stories for Walt DisneyStudios and was most recently seen starring opposite Kevin James in Universal's comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. He’ll return to screen June 6th as the title character in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. Previously, he has appeared in Sony's Reign Over Me and the box-office hits Click and The Longest Yard, as well as Spanglish, 50 First Dates, Anger Management and Punch-Drunk Love, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination. Other credits include Coneheads, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Big Daddy and Mr. Deeds.
Sandler has also served as a producer through his Happy Madison Productions on Click, The Benchwarmers, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, and Strange Wilderness. He executive-produced Grandma's Boy, The Animal, Joe Dirt, The Master Of Disguise, The Hot Chick and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. Upcoming Happy Madison projects include The House Bunny and Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
