Award Winners to Dine in Hell?
Jun 25, 2008From the merchants' point of view, there is one DVD that stands out above all others this year, and believe it or not, that is the Spartan war-epic 300. The film was awarded in both the "High-Definition" and "Rental Title of the Year" categories. You could almost hear King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) bellowing his famous cry, “Tonight we dine in hell!” at the recent Home Entertainment Awards, presented by the Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA).
Who better to judge which DVDs are most popular? At the ceremony in Las Vegas, Raiders of the Lost Ark was inducted into the Entertainment Merchants Association's (EMA) Video Hall of Fame, joining Casablanca, The Godfather, Grease and Scarface. The Video Hall of Fame recognizes movies that have continued to perform well in both video sales and rental sales over an extended period of time. Home entertainment retailers and distributors that are members of the EMA select the inductees.
Also at the Home Entertainment Awards show, Ed Begley Jr. was honored as the Humanitarian of the Year, Ben Stein received the Freedom of Expression award, Cam Gigandet was named Rising Male Star, Henry Jaglom was given the Independent Career Achievement Award, and Happy Days' Don Most and Anson Williams were hailed as "Legendary Television Duo." The show was hosted by comedian-actor Jamie Kennedy. To see a complete list of winners, visit http://www.entmerch.org/home_entertainment_awards.html.
