There's a lot for cartoon buffs to look forward to in the coming months and years.

Warner Brothers Studios is developing a feature version of "Yogi Bear," the classic Hanna-Barbara cartoon, which first appeared in 1958. Yogi, of course, is the bear who lives in Jellystone Park, where he and his sidekick, Boo Boo are constantly causing mischief, and must escape the clutches of Ranger Smith. This new film emphasizes the theme of real live action with animation, similar to Fox's 2007 hit, Alvin & the Chipmunks. The new Yogi Bear and Boo Boo will be cartoons, but the majority of the film will be live acting.

In the works for DreamWorks Animation is the sequel to Kung Fu Panda, due out on June 3, 2011. The first Panda grossed over $626 million worldwide, and is DWA's most successful non-sequel to date. It will be released on Nov. 9th on two-disc DVD and Blu-Ray including an extra feature story, "Secrets of the Furious Five." Jack Black will return as the main martial arts-loving panda, Po, and Angelina Jolie is set to reprise her role as Tigress. The sequel will focus on Po as he carries on his journey as the chosen one who fulfills an ancient prophecy while trying to master the art of kung fu. The new film will be produced using 3D technology, which is going to be standard for all DWA movies debuting next year.

Disney's latest offering, however, will win the dog race to the theatre first, having just announced that its new animated feature Bolt will open in the inaugural 3DX: 3D Film & Entertainment Technology Festival in Singapore on Nov. 19. Bolt is one of Disney's major 3D releases for 2008, similar to Meet the Robinsons from last year. The movie is about a German Shepherd named Bolt, voiced by John Travolta, who ends up on an adventure after he gets separated from his reality show.
