Can you imagine Indiana Jones going head to head with Archie Bunker? It could have happened, if Harrison Ford would have accepted the role of Meathead on All in the Family. It seems Ford turned down the role of Archie Bunker's son-in-law, Michael "Meathead" Stivic, which Rob Reiner ended up accepting. That's all in a new book called Mickey Rooney as Archie Bunker and Other TV Casting Almosts, by Eila Mell, which reveals hundreds of weird casting would-have-beens.

One of the other truly bizarre casting almosts involves Rosie O'Donnell coming very close to landing the role of Jerry Seinfeld's female best friend, Elaine Benes, on Seinfeld, which ended up going to Julia Louis-Dreyfus. For more fun casting decisions, you'll have to buy the book.
