Daryl Hannah Goes Back to the Beach
Aug 26, 2008If you’re tired of the same old Hollywood crash bang fare, or find that scatological humor no longer amuses you, there is a decent alternative available to you at your local IMAX theater: Dolphins and Whales 3D: Tribes of the Ocean, narrated by everyone’s favorite siren of the sea, Daryl Hannah.
Dolphins and Whales 3D immerses viewers in the daily lives of small and giant cetaceans as they interact socially, play, communicate, feed, breed, migrate and fight for their survival. It delivers a message in favor of the protection of these tribes while they are facing the greatest challenge of all: to survive the destruction of their habitat and depletion of food resources.
The film, presented by Jean-Michel Cousteau, has grossed USD $8.3 million in box office revenues worldwide as of Aug. 24, including USD $4.3 million garnered domestically at 15 IMAX theatres since its U.S. launch on Feb. 15.
The film is playing in such diverse locations as the New England Aquarium in Boston, the IMAX theatre in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis, the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tenn,. and the CN IMAX Theatre at Canada Place in Vancouver, Canada. It’s also playing in Germany and Austria.
Beginning Oct. 10, it will be shown on IMAX screens at Chicago's Navy Pier and Cinemark Seven Bridges, the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, Minn. and Cinemark Tinseltown USA in Rochester, N.Y., followed in 2009 by Pittsburgh, Colorado Springs, Colo., Sacramento, Calif. and Galveston, Texas. The Singapore Discovery Center, Paris' La Geode and IMAX theatres located in Prague, Budapest and Sofia, Bulgaria will also join the growing list of international exhibitors in the coming year.
