Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has been rolling over the competition this year at home and abroad. The movie, which features Shia LaBeouf and Cate Blanchett joining Indy veterans Harrison Ford and Karen Allen, has already grossed more than $713 million this year, with more than half of that earned overseas.

It’s one half of a tremendously successful blockbuster duo for Paramount Pictures Distribution. Iron Man, produced by Marvel Enterprises and anchored by Robert Downey, Jr., has topped $300 million domestically. Last year, Paramount saw similar success with two slightly different films, the kid’s franchise favorite Shrek the Third and the CGI-heavy Transformers. This marks the first time in history that any studio has had two consecutive years each with two releases that grossed over $300 million domestically.

It’s not all sunny for Paramount this summer though. The company has also released The Love Guru, limping along with only $25 million grossed domestically since its June 20 release and, in combination with DreamWorks, Kung Fu Panda, which is now facing stiff competition from the Pixar’s WALL-E.
