There’s been a rumor kicking around for a few months that Paramount is making a sequel to School of Rock, and now it’s official: Jack Black is back for School of Rock 2: America Rocks.

Also returning is writer/star Mike White, who played Black’s buddy in the first installment. Paramount bought his new script for the follow-up film, which will be directed by Richard Linklater and produced by Scott Rudin, both of whom had the same duties on the original.

The plot picks up where the last film left off, with Black’s character Dewey Finn taking a group of summer school students on a musical cross-country tour of the United States, during which they explore the origins of blues, country, rap, etc.

In addition to School of Rock, White has written a number of star vehicles for Black, including Orange County and Nacho Libre. The two even created their own shingle called Black and White Productions for a few years, but it lasted only two years.
