The latest Marvel superhero, ahem, superheroine movie has just been announced: Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Sin City, Grind House) is teaming up with his fiancé Rose McGowan to remake Red Sonja, the “She-Devil With a Sword.” Filming is expected to start in October.

Bridget Neilson and Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in the 1985, B-movie version. For the remake, Rodriguez, who has an affinity for B-movies, will produce and Douglas Aarniokoski (Highlander: End Game) will direct. This time around Red Sonja, who first appeared in the Conan the Barbarian series, is seeking vengeance against the evildoers that destroyed her family and saving her homeland from the sorcerer Kulan Gath.

Before starring in Rodriguez’s Grindhouse, McGowan was best known as Shannen Doherty’s replacement in the Tv series Charmed, and also appeared in films such as Scream, Jawbreaker and Monkeybone.
