The upcoming Columbia Pictures’ action thriller, Salt, starring Angelina Jolie begins principal photography this week.

The film is directed by Phillip Noyce (The Bone Collector, Clear and Present Danger), and the adapted screen play was written by Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, Man on Fire). Jolie starred in The Bone Collector alongside Denzel Washington in 1999.

Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent whose focus is duty and honor for her county. When she is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy, she goes on the run to prove her innocence. She must out-think and out-skill the very company she swore allegiance to, in order to save herself and her husband.

Jolie has many different looks in the film. One is a soft, feminine blonde and another is a dark, dangerous brunette.

"She's a character you never know," the film's producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura said. "People who think they know the real her may or may not. Those who think they can tell whether she's in a disguise also may or may not. She tells you her agenda, but are you supposed to believe it?"

He also assured the public that movie will be different from others with similar plot lines such as The Bourne Identity.

"The question of Jason Bourne is 'Who am I?'," he said. "The question of Salt is, 'We know everything about her, but do we?'"

Liev Schreiber also stars in the film as Salt’s boss and friend on the Russian desk at the CIA. Chiwetel Ejiofor is a CIA counter-intelligence officer named Peabody.

Salt will film in Washington, DC and in New York and is slated for release in 2010.
