Spidey to Spin Two More Webs
Sep 8, 2008It seems that Sony just can’t get enough of a good thing. Word is out that the studio is on the brink of signing Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi for the fourth and fifth installments the Spider-Man, with Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad back to produce.
In a rare cost-cutting move, it’s rumored that the next films might be shot back-to-back, starting next fall, much like New Line did with its The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Disney did with the last two episodes of Pirates of the Caribbean.
You can’t blame Sony for wanting to spin the Spider-Man web a little wider. It’s the studio’s most successful movie franchise, with the first three films grossing more than $2.5 billion worldwide.
While no one other than Maguire was ever considered, it’s questionable whether or not Kirsten Dunst will be back as Mary Jane Watson. It could, however, be possible to see the return of Topher Grace as Venom, if he’s not busy starring in the spin-off the studio plans to make.
