Taratino's Inglourious Basterds Announces Release Date
Jan 5, 2009Quentin Tarantino’s World War II epic, Inglourious Basterds, will be released on August 21, 2009.
The film stars Brad Pitt and is produced by The Weinstein Company (TWC) and Universal Pictures. The two companies are co-financing and co-representing the film with TWC managing domestic distribution and Universal in charge of international distribution.
The film is inspired by Italian director Enzo Castellan’s 1978 movie, Inglourious Bastards. It centers on a World War II group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” who are chosen to brutally kill a group of Nazis. They run into a Jewish girl working at a movie theater in Paris who seeks revenge from the Nazis who killed her family.
The film will be divided into five chapters and features the largest cast of characters with speaking roles in any Tarantino film.
Tarantino won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay for 1994’s Pulp Fiction. He also directed Reservoir Dogs (1992), Jackie Brown (1997), Kill Bill Volume 1 & 2 (2003, 2004), and Death Proof (2007).
