Hey...c'mere! Wanna buy a piece of The Hobbit? How about a Pink Panther tale? These rare items and more can be yours for the bargain basement price of up to $600 million, cash or check made out to MGM.

So what's the deal?  MGM is looking to raise as much as $600 million to finance its upcoming film slate, which includes Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings prequel (The Hobbit), more Pink Panther comedies starring Steve Martin and a remake of the 1980 musical Fame.

"In the past, movie studios haven't offered Wall Street the opportunity to participate in their biggest and best films," MGM spokesman Jeff Pryor told Bloomberg News. "There is a lot of interest because of the quality of product we have."

Good luck, MGM. Just last month Paramount decided against a similar plan to raise $450 million from a unit of Germany's Deutsche Bank. Because of the current lending climate, the plan was ditched and the Deutsche Bank unit, set up specifically to invest in entertainment projects, was shut down.
