More news about what is likely to be the fashion hit of the century so far: Warner Bros. will now be producing and distributing Coco Before Chanel, the in-production biographical film starring Audrey Tautou. And the studio has hired House of Chanel art director Karl Lagerfeld to supervise re-creations of the legendary designer's wardrobe.

Warner Bros. has been wanting to join in for months, even though it’s a French-language project. It would be more in style with one of the WB indie arms like Picturehouse or Warner Independent Pictures, but they’ve both been closed down recently. Chanel will be one of the studio's first new attempts to handle a specialty release.

Anne Fontaine has adapted the Edmonde Charles-Roux's biography L'irreguliere for the big screen. It covers Chanel’s early years. The entire shoot is expected to be completed in four-months, after a Sept. 15 start in Paris. The film is expected to be released sometime in 2009.
